Hello! I am "The Whistler", a tin whistle player from Cork, Ireland! Welcome to my website! Here you'll find my tunes and notes, as well as my commercial releases, some tin whistle teaching material, and a blog with album reviews, and (coming soon!) reviews of different tin whistles and other fipple flutes.
This website gives a little bit of order to the hundreds of tunes, covers and pieces I've uploaded to my YouTube Channel. The tabs above should direct you to the different tune types, and I have my Twitter and Facebook pages linked as well. Have you a tune request? Let me know at the [email protected] For most Irish tunes, there are good notes available on other websites (eg http://thesession.org/tunes) - kindly check there for notes of common traditional tunes before requesting! Thank you for listening to my music! Happy listening and learning! |
About Me:
I'm a tin whistle player and traditional musician from Cork, Ireland, now based in Dublin, Ireland. I started this project in late 2012 to record and upload the tunes I know onto YouTube, and it's just kind of gotten out of hand since! I've now done over 1,400 videos, as well as sheet music, notes, a website, a Twitter account, a Facebook page, and more recently, some albums and singles to collate some of the work I've done online.
My project is as much to showcase the humble tin whistle as it is a demonstration of its huge range and versatility. Most of my work is in Irish traditional tunes (reels, jigs, hornpipes, polkas, slides, marches, airs), but I've also branched into other areas, including national anthems, classical music covers, nursery rhymes, old-time American tunes, and (of course) pop songs!
I'm always open to tune requests, including for notation, although it's much more fun to play than write! I sometimes take a fair bit of time to get around to requests, so do be patient! If its an Irish tune, I will often redirect you to http://thesession.org, a fantastic free resource of tunes contributed to by hundreds of traditional musicians, a lot of whom have been playing a lot longer than I have. If it's a pop or classical cover I've done, or a tune I've composed, I'm usually happy enough to scribble something down, but do check the video descriptions on YouTube before you ask!
I'm also very open to collaborations (check out this one I did with Little Ditties!) so if you have an idea for a collaboration, or something we could work on together, let me know at [email protected].
